The South Carolina Democratic Party is pleased to announce that United States Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana will be the special guest speaker at the Party's annual reception honoring present and past Democratic members of South Carolina's Federal Delegation. The Federal Delegation reception will be on August 31 at the Marriott Hotel at 6:00 PM at 1200 Hampton Street in Columbia.
"Evan Bayh is a true leader in the United States Senate. He's one of the Democratic Party's rising stars and has a very exciting future ahead. We are thrilled to welcome him to South Carolina and look forward to hearing his vision for America," said South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Joe Erwin.
Elected to his second term in November 2004, Senator Bayh currently serves on five Senate committees: Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, on which he is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on International Trade and Finance; Armed Services; the Select Committee on Intelligence; the Special Committee on Aging; and the Small Business Committee. Bayh previously served two terms as Governor of Indiana.
Bayh was born in Shirkieville, Indiana. He graduated with honors in business economics from Indiana University in 1978, and received his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1981. After clerking for a federal court judge and entering private law practice in Indianapolis, he was elected Indiana's Secretary of State in 1986.
For more information about the reception honoring past and present Democratic members of South Carolina's federal delegation, contact Lachlan McIntosh at (803) 799-7798.
