Make-A-Wish® of South Carolina Launches Initiative
PRESS RELEASE
August 17, 2006

Almost five hundred private and public schools across Upstate, SC counties are being invited to join KIDS FOR WISH KIDS® and WISHMAKERS ON CAMPUS®, designed to raise funds and awareness for the Make-A-Wish® Foundation of South
Carolina, an organization that fulfills wishes for kids diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. The programs have proven extremely successful across the United States and are now being launched right here in South Carolina! "We are very excited about partnering with schools to make wishes come true. When children help each other, we all benefit," says Russell Smith, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish of South Carolina.

KIDS FOR WISH KIDS®, designed for elementary schools, and WISHMAKERS ON
CAMPUS®, designed for middle and high schools, are valuable teaching tools for students helping them develop and use creative abilities by organizing fundraising projects and enhancing math skills by keeping track of money raised with teachers. The programs also teach compassion and benevolence for other young people who are facing life-threatening illnesses. Best of all, students have fun participating! Teachers from past participating schools tell Make-A-Wish® the hands-on experience with KIDS FOR WISH KIDS® and WISHMAKERS ON CAMPUS® is an outstanding addition to the classroom. Students agree there is no feeling quite like the satisfaction of helping dreams come true for other kids.

In support of this initiative to involve students, Make-A-Wish® of South Carolina is also excited to announce the "My Wish For Kids" Art Contest through which students will complete the sentence "I Wish All Kids Could…" and illustrate their answers. One winning student per grade levels 1st-12th will be featured on a month in the calendar, for a total of twelve winners, and receive other prizes. One lucky student will be randomly drawn from all school winners submitted to Make-A-Wish® of South Carolina to receive a trip for four to Orlando, FL including FREE lodging and park hopper passes to Walt Disney World, MGM Studios, and Epcot!

South Carolina KIDS FOR WISH KIDS® and WISHMAKERS ON CAMPUS® Program Coordinator, Angela Hughes Singleton, explains "these programs provide much needed resources for schools to introduce community service to students while giving
them specific opportunities to get involved. We anticipate a great response from parents concerning this initiative and hope they will encourage their school's administration to join our efforts."

The deadline for fund submission for KIDS FOR WISH KIDS® and WISHMAKERS ON CAMPUS® is November 15, 2006. All participating schools will receive a recognition certificate and listing on the Make-A-Wish® of South Carolina 2006/2007
Honor Roll. A "Top Fundraising School" and "Top Fundraising Teacher" for each program will be awarded a laptop computer and digital camera, respectively, from a Make-A-Wish® family during a media presentation with presenting sponsors Fox Carolina, Magic 98.9, and 106.3 The Walk.

Information packets are being sent to guidance counselors in Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg, Union, and York counties. For more information on how to involve your school or to request a packet directly from Make-A-Wish® of South Carolina, call 1-800-293-WISH or visit WWW.SC.WISH.ORG.
