Columbia, S.C. - Oct. 27, 2005 - Gov. Mark Sanford will serve as a panelist during a hearing chaired by U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) on Medicaid reform efforts currently underway in South Carolina. Sen. Coburn, also a practicing OB-GYN, is making South Carolina the first in a series of hearings he will hold about improving healthcare quality and access nationwide. During the public hearing, Gov. Sanford and other panelists will speak about South Carolina's current effort to reform Medicaid with a plan aimed at providing better quality of care while reining in the program's unsustainable growth rate. The hearing will take place at the College of Charleston's School of Business and Economics Building (5 Liberty Street, Charleston) in the Wachovia Auditorium at 10:00 a.m. Gov. Sanford will be the first panelist to testify.
