Gov. Sanford Issues Statement on Burnie Maybank
PRESS RELEASE

Columbia, S.C. - August 26, 2005 - Gov. Mark Sanford today issued the following statement praising Department of Revenue Director Burnie Maybank, who today announced his intention to resign from his position effective December 31, 2005:

"Burnie has been an invaluable asset to this administration and a true servant leader," Gov. Sanford said. "He's consistently watched out for the best interests of the taxpayers and found ways to make his department more efficient and accountable to the people it
serves. He's been a key member of my Cabinet and his institutional knowledge and steady hand over at Revenue will be missed."

Director Maybank, who served in both the Campbell and Beasley administrations, made a three-year commitment to Gov. Sanford prior to accepting his appointment to the Governor's Cabinet. In addition to other efficiencies, the Department of Revenue saved nearly $1 million through internal restructuring and over $500,000 in tax return processing efficiencies under Gov. Sanford and Director Maybank's leadership.
