Gov. Sanford to Present Citizenship Awards, Honor Mother of the Year
PRESS RELEASE
April 19, 2005

Columbia, S.C. – April 19, 2005 – Gov. Mark Sanford will honor over 900 student leaders from public schools throughout South Carolina tomorrow morning (April 20, 2005) as he presents the 2005 Governor’s Citizenship Awards. The governor will also honor the 2005 "Mother of the Year" for the State of South Carolina at a ceremony in his office tomorrow afternoon.

The Governor’s Citizenship Awards are presented annually to students from each school who "consistently exhibit character, service, leadership, responsibility and discipline." Each winner, accompanied by his or her parents and/or a school representative, will be awarded a medal from the governor during the presentation ceremony. Tomorrow’s ceremony will be held on the North Steps of the South Carolina Statehouse in downtown Columbia at 11:00 a.m.

Also tomorrow, Gov. Sanford will recognize South Carolina’s "Mother of the Year" at a ceremony in his office. Following the presentation, First Lady Jenny Sanford will host a tea in honor of this year’s "Mother of the Year" at the Governor’s Mansion. Tomorrow’s "Mother of the Year" presentation will take place in the Governor’s Office (First Floor – West Wing) at the South Carolina Statehouse in downtown Columbia at 3:00 p.m.
