BOB STATON LAUNCHES FIRST TV AD OF SUPERINTENDENT'S RACE
PRESS RELEASE
May 2, 2006

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(LEXINGTON, SC) - Republican businessman Bob Staton today launched the first TV ad of the Superintendent of Education race.

The 30-second ad, titled "Stanton," was unveiled and began running in major markets across the state this morning.  It is a positive and humorous spot aimed at spreading the campaign's message of cutting waste in education to produce results for our children.

"People have always mispronounced my name.  You wouldn't think that a name with only six letters would be so difficult, but since my signs started going up around the state, all I get is Stanton or 'Stat-ton' as in Staten Island.  Hopefully after seeing this ad people will get the idea," Staton joked.

"But on a serious note, we have to let folks know that our education system can be a shining star if we use our resources effectively and efficiently," Staton continued.

"As Superintendent, I will run our education system like a business.  I will cut wasteful bureaucratic spending and put resources where they will really produce results - in the classroom for the student and the teacher.  When we provide accountability for our tax dollars, our state and our economy will rise to the top."

Staton reissued his pledge to spend his first 180 days in office analyzing all programs and regulations under the South Carolina Department of Education to determine their effectiveness in helping our children succeed. Wasteful programs and regulations will be eliminated and resources directed to the classroom.
