PRESS RELEASE
July 6, 2005

STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA
OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Columbia, S.C. - July 6, 2005 - Gov. Mark Sanford today announced that he will attend the funeral of former Citadel President Lt. Gen. George M. Seignious II tomorrow morning (Thursday, July 7, 2005) in Charleston following a visit to the Governor's School of South Carolina.

"General Seigniuos was a patriot in every sense of the word," Gov. Sanford said. "He was also a personal friend and a consistent role model who's had a tremendous impact on my life and the lives of countless others. Whether it was his family, his state, his nation or his students, General Seignious always answered the call, putting the lives and best interests of others before his own. That to me is the definition of servant leadership."

Tomorrow's funeral service for Gen. Seignious will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Summerall Chapel, located on the campus of the Citadel (171 Moultrie Street, Charleston).

Prior to attending Gen. Seignious' funeral service, Gov. Sanford will pay a visit to the Governor's School of South Carolina on the occasion of the school's 30th Anniversary. The governor will address a student body representing more than 100 public and private schools in our state beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Emmett Robinson Theatre (Fine Arts Building) on the Campus of the College of Charleston.

For more information or directions from your location to either of these events, please contact Chris Drummond or Will Folks in the Governor's Office at 803-734-2100.
