Statement By Attorney General Henry McMaster On On U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra
PRESS RELEASE
July 1, 2005

Columbia, S.C. July 1, 2005 - Attorney General Henry McMaster made the following statement on U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's decision to retire.

"This is another opportunity for President Bush to appoint a conservative jurist to the federal judiciary who will interpret and apply the constitution properly instead of legislating from the bench and relying on international opinion and public polls."

"The consequences of erroneous constructions by the federal judiciary have been demonstrated in recent South Carolina cases including the town of
Great Falls prayer appeal, the Choose Life license plate decision and death penalty issues."
