Wilkins' statement on nomination to serve as Ambassador to Canada
April 28, 2005

(Columbia) * Speaker David H. Wilkins issued the following statement today regarding the President's announcement that Wilkins is his nominee for Ambassador to Canada:

"First and foremost, I thank President Bush for his confidence in nominating me for this important post.  I am deeply honored by his nomination.

"I have served the people of the great state of South Carolina for 25 years and every second of it has been a labor of love.

"Susan and I are truly excited about this incredible privilege.

"As I begin to think about ending this chapter of my life and writing a brand new one, it is with profound gratitude for all the blessings in my life.

"If confirmed by the United States Senate, I pledge to work every bit as hard in my new post as I have as a South Carolina lawmaker.  My highest goal is to bring honor to my country and to the nation of Canada."
