Delay Resignation Should Be a Wake-Up Call for Wilson

April 4, 2006
Today, Joe Erwin, Chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party, again called on Rep. Joe Wilson to return money from ethically challenged Tom DeLay in light of the former Majority Leader's decision to resign because of the Republican culture of corruption.
Rep. Wilson has received at least $15,000 in tainted money from Tom DeLay's political action committee. [Federal Election Commission, www.fec.gov http://www.fec.gov/> ] Additionally, Rep. Wilson contributed $5,000 to Tom DeLay's legal defense fund and gave DeLay an additional $5,000 two days after DeLay's indictment by a Texas grand

Chairman Erwin made the following remarks:
"Joe Wilson has modeled his entire record in Congress on Tom DeLay's example. South Carolinians deserve better-they deserve leaders who are committed to cleaning up the culture of corruption created by Tom DeLay and his cronies."
"I don't know what kind of hold Tom DeLay has on Joe Wilson, but despite all the corruption swirling around DeLay, Joe Wilson still hangs on to DeLay's tainted cash.
