Sharpton Supporters, UNITE!
Jimmy Moore
June 20, 2003

If you read my article on CommonVoice.com last week entitled "Republicans For Sharpton...SERIOUSLY!" and were inspired to support the candidacy of the Rev. Al Sharpton for the Democrat nomination for president, then listen up! Here's your chance to make an early impact on race that could affect the perception of the Sharpton candidacy nationally.

MoveOn.org is conducting a straw poll on Tuesday, June 24, 2003. They are holding this early poll because they believe that too many primary races involve "pundits, pollsters and wealthy donors (that) determine the outcome" of the race even before the voters go to the polls. They are convinced that their poll will be an accurate representation of who the leading candidate is for the Democrat nomination for president.

MoveOn.org is a political action committee that supports ultra-liberal political candidates who wholeheartedly support the liberal agenda. They say their organization is needed to "offset the influence of wealthy and corporate donors" presumably coming from the Republican Party (although recent reports show that there are more Democrat millionaires in the Senate than Republicans).

It is quite possible that well over a million voters will be voting in this poll that begins at midnight on Tuesday, June 24th through Wednesday, June 25th at 11:59EST. However, to be eligible to vote in the poll, you will need to register to vote first. Once you register, you will receive an automated e-mail.

The e-mail will tell you the next step in the voting process:

Thank you for registering for MoveOn.org PAC's presidential primary. You'll get another email with your own unique voting link late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. Voting will begin 12:00 am, Tuesday, June 24th.

They also encourage you to contact your friends and family to vote in this poll at the end of the e-mail by providing a form letter that can be cut and pasted into an e-mail. As for the unique voting link, that is supposed to ensure the one-vote-per-person integrity of the poll.

Al Sharpton even has a posted message on MoveOn.org that explains why he wants people to vote for him. He has as good a chance as any of the candidates to make a major impact on the primary race by doing well in this poll.

This is the perfect opportunity for the Democrats to see just how strong the Al Sharpton candidacy REALLY is. If Sharpton is the man you'd like President Bush to face in next year's presidential race, then make your voice heard in this straw poll. Don't forget to register to vote ASAP!

MoveOn.org will announce the official voting results after all the voting has been completed. Interestingly, MoveOn.org has promised to endorse any of the nine candidates who receives a plurality of the vote, or 50% plus 1 vote. That is unlikely to happen, but wouldn't it be a hoot if Al Sharpton got a plurality and MoveOn.org would be forced to publicly endorse him?! LOL!

If no candidate wins a majority of the votes, then MoveOn.org will attempt to narrow the field based on the top-tier candidates from the lastest poll results and possibly hold another straw poll in a few months.

You can bet that Republicans For Sharpton will be ALL OVER this poll.
