SCDE announces an extraordinary scholarship year
Benj Buck
August 25, 2005

It's that time of year again.  Many young people head off to college looking to start a new chapter in life.  Fortunately, scholarships can make a huge difference as that chapter unfolds.

This morning South Carolina Department of Education proudly announced that the Class of 2005 earned $554 million worth of scholarships. "Those are extraordinary numbers, aren't they?" Inez Tenenbaum said in a press release this morning.  The press release also says that about a fifth of the states's scholarship is due to LIFE, HOPE, and Palmetto Fellows.

Here's a list of school districts and the amount of scholarships their students received.  How well did the students in your area fare?

Perhaps all these scholarships are needed more than we think. With the great job I.T. has done preparing them [sarcasm, sarcasm]. A high school diploma from South Carolina has once again been proven to be the weakest diploma to have.
