Petition For Tenenbaum To Step Down As Education Superintendent
Jimmy Moore
July 7, 2004

Beginning today and running through August 15, I want to promote a statewide petition appealing to every taxpaying citizen in South Carolina.

As everyone probably knows by now, although she faced very little opposition, state education superintendent Inez Tenenbaum was recently selected to be the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Sen. Ernest "Fritz" Hollings.

Yet, now that the Republican Party has also chosen its nominee, Tenenbaum has already begun running a more active, full-time campaign in her bid to win the general election in November.

As a result, I believe it is time for Tenenbaum to make her choice.

Here is the petition that will be delivered to Inez Tenenbaum next month that I am proposing South Carolinians to join me in signing:

Dear Mrs. Tenenbaum,

Ever since you were fortunate enough to be elected to serve as Superintendent of Education in South Carolina by the voters of this great state, you promised to commit yourself to the children by conducting the duties of this office for the duration of your term.

And while the summer months are considered vacation time for students and teachers, this is actually the busiest time for school administrators as they prepare for the upcoming school year. It is imperative that the state leadership be present during this time and during the first few months of the school year to make the important decisions that will affect the returning students who are desiring a meaningful education.

However, your decision to run for the U.S. Senate has seriously jeopardized your ability to effectively lead the state education department as well as you should. In fact, your campaign activities will directly hinder your work on behalf of the children during the next few critical months.

To that end, I urge you as a taxpaying voter to decide whether you want to honor your commitment to serve the people of South Carolina as its education superintendent or to do the right thing and step down from this position to campaign full-time for the U.S. Senate.

It is impossible for you to do both of these at the same time. However, if you believe that you can do both, I contend that you will be doing a disservice to the taxpaying citizens of South Carolina who elected you to do a job that you can no longer perform. It's time for you to make your choice.

Sincerely,

YOUR NAME HERE

If you believe Tenenbaum should make a choice about whether she will run for the U.S. Senate or serve as the Superintendent of Education, then sign this petition TODAY.

E-mail your signed petition (cut and paste the text above), along with your address and e-mail address to with the subject line "Tenenbaum Petition."

Help SC GOPUSA reach its goal of 500 signed petitions to send Tenenbaum a message!

NOTE: Your information will only be used for this petition and will not be redistributed or sold to anyone.

Haywood, my time on the voice is limited. I have no desire to read comments from the likes of you. I really think I am in the majority when it comes to objecting to the language you use.  . . .
